The organization recalled in a statement that the first Anaic groups were created spontaneously in support of the Cuban Revolution, at the time of the US aggression, and today, the Association has 70 groups that bring together more than 4,500 members in Italy.
Among its main objectives is the struggle against the illegal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the Government of the United States for more than sixty years, as well as “the return to Cuba of the territory illegally occupied by the US in the eastern province of Guantanamo,” the press release noted.
It highlighted the work done for more than six decades by the Anaic presidents, including Arnaldo Cambiaghi, Roberto Foresti, Sergio Marinoni, Irma Dioli and Marco Papacci, who was reelected at the national congress held from November 4 to 6, 2022 in the city of Brescia, in the northern region of Lombardy.
In recent statements to Prensa Latina, Papacci emphasized that the oldest and largest friendship association with Cuba Italy “defends the right of the Cuban people to live in a society in which they believe.”
That is “one of the objectives of the association since its first days and today it remains as a guide for our actions,” said Papacci, who also referred to the thousands of initiatives organized from the first moments to inform in a truthful and objective way about Cuba’s reality and to fight against the media campaigns against that country.
Among the most recent solidarity actions are those to support Cuba in its fight against Covid-19, as well as the aid sent in 2022 after the explosion at the Saratoga hotel, the fire at the supertanker base in the port of Matanzas, and the damage caused by Hurricane Ian in western Cuba.
