Brazilian police serve arrest warrants for coup acts

Brasília, Apr 18 (Prensa Latina) The Federal Police (PF) of Brazil is today serving 16 preventive arrest warrants and 22 search and seizure warrants, as part of an investigation into the coup acts of January 8 in this capital.

Ordered by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), the dispositions of the tenth phase of Operation Lesa Patria are being carried out in seven states and the Federal District (DF).

“The investigations continue so that the law is fully observed,” the Minister of Justice, Flavio Dino, wrote on the social network Twitter, who added that “only in this way will we guarantee peace and democracy.”

The public authorities did not inform, so far, how many suspects were arrested.

According to the PF, the investigated facts constitutes, in theory, crimes of violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, coup d’état, qualified damage, criminal association, incitement to crime, destruction and deterioration or disablement of specially protected property.

The ongoing operation has regular updates on the number of warrants issued, persons arrested and fugitives.

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, from the STF, voted for the first 100 denounced for the anti-democratic actions of January 8 to become indicted.In this way of analysis, the ministers cast their votes electronically and there is no face-to-face deliberation.

Earlier today, the trial began in the virtual plenary session of the Supreme Court and will continue until April 24.
