Idania Ramos Carmona, a functionary at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples (ICAP), who tours the country’s several states related to the meeting at the San Ildefonso Workers’ University on April 29-30, with the support of Cuban Embassy representatives Lissette Sardiña and Brian de la Nuez, presided over the ceremony with Mexican leaders.
The ICAP specialist recalled Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro’s direct participation in the fight against the mercenaries on April 16, 1961, and his speech at the funeral of the victims of the US air raids to the military airfields of Ciudad Libertad and San Antonio de los Baños in the then Havana province, and the civilian airport of Santiago de Cuba.
She recalled that Fidel Castro, moved by the patriotism and pain of the people, proclaimed the socialist character of the Cuban Revolution during a rally at the corner of 23rd Avenue and 12th Street in the Havana neighborhood of Vedado.
Ramos pointed out that more than six decades later, the Cuban people, with the support of Movements of Solidarity worldwide, especially in Mexico, still defend socialism while facing campaigns of lies and manipulations in social media.
