Ambassador Jorge Mayo praises strong Nicaragua-Cuba friendship

EMNAJADOR-DE-CUBA-500x249
Managua, Apr 17 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban ambassador to Nicaragua Jorge Mayo on Monday heaped praise on his country´s strong friendship with Nicaragua.

In an interview with Radio 580 Mayo pointed out that brotherhood and solidarity between both nations should not be limited to one single day, as it started off by establishing since the very beginning of the Cuban Revolution in January 1959.

Mayo recalled the Nicaraguan pilot, Carlos Ulloa, who died fighting in defense of the Cuban Revolution in Playa Giron Invasion on April 17, 1961, as Cuba was invaded by U.S.-financed mercenaries.

“Carlos Ulloa symbolizes both brotherhood and bond for our peoples. Both nations have experienced 62 years of brotherhood, cooperation, exchange and mutual solidarity,” the Cuban diplomat stated.

In this regard, Mayo talked about actions orchestrated by the U.S. government to destroy the Cuban Revolution since the very beginning, including terror attacks, kidnappings and many others, but -he added- the Playa Giron invasion was the most important one back then.

That military operation was conceived, organized and financed by the United States, and the U.S. Army was widely involved in such an invasion, he added, while praising the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro who headed Cuban troops in Playa Girón reaching victory in less than 72 hours”.

The Cuban ambassador also stated that the example of different nations including Cuba constitutes no threat to oligarchs and hegemonic interests of the United States in the region.

No revolutions in Latin America would threaten in one iota the interests of the American people.

“No act of aggression against the United States has ever been planned by Cuba; on the contrary, Cuba has been victim of such acts. But no threat has ever come out of our peoples,” Mayo said.

The Bay of Pigs invasion was not the only one faced by Cuba if we take into account the acts of terrorism orchestrated throughout more than 60 years of the Revolution.

“The U.S. attempt to defeat the Cuban Revolution has not ceased and there are no signs that it will cease,” he said.
