The RSF issued a statement on Saturday pointing out that the Army launched a surprise attack against their positions in the city using all kinds of weapons.
For its part, Al Jazeera also reported shots fired near the residence of the country’s military leader, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, noting that there is still no news on the exact situation of the general.
Other similar clashes were reported in the city of Meroe, 200 kilometers to the north, where the RSF had been stationed around a military base since last Thursday and ignored the Army’s warnings to evacuate the place.
The fighting is taking place a few hours after Al-Burhan and the paramilitary leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo spoke in favor of starting negotiations to resolve their differences over the process of integrating both forces into a unified army.
