Trump appears, for the second time, in court in New York

Trump-tribunal
Washington, Apr 13 (Prensa Latina) Former United States President Donald Trump (2017-2021) will appear today, for the second time, in court for a fraud lawsuit led by the New York Attorney General, Letitia James.

After appearing last week in Manhattan for a 34-count felony arraignment, the tycoon returned to court in a case in which he is accused -along with his three adult sons and their business entities- of manipulating securities of properties for investment and loan benefits for several years.

Trump offered his first statement in this civil fraud lawsuit last August, but he invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 400 times, and now it’s unclear if he will answer questions, according to reports from The Hill and CBS News.

However, this plea, which is part of the discovery process leading up to the civil trial on October 2, is expected to be different, CBS News notes.

Alina Habba, Trump’s attorney, told the network that she “is looking forward to testifying before the attorney general” and “stands by her position that she has nothing to hide.”

New York state is seeking $250 million in financial penalties and has asked the court to bar the former president and Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric Trump from serving as officers or directors of any corporation registered or licensed in that state.

James also asked the court to bar the former president and his business from buying real estate in New York or borrowing from any financial institution for five years.

Trump called James’ lawsuit against him “another witch hunt” and repeatedly asserted that she has no merit in this case, nor in any of the pending investigations looming over it.

“This civil case is ridiculous, just like all the other Election Interference cases filed against me,” he wrote in a post on his Truth Social network.

This second appearance comes as the future contender for the 2024 presidential job faces mounting legal troubles on multiple fronts.

Other ongoing investigations fall on President 45, including one for his efforts to annul the results of the elections that he lost in November 2020; for his instigating role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the federal Capitol, and the discovery of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.
