Cuban screens will show the VI European Film Festival

Havana, Apr 11 (Prensa Latina) Films from around fifteen countries make up today the screening that will be shown in this capital from April 12 to 23, as part of the VI European Film Festival in Cuba.

The event, which is part of the calendar of actions for the Month of Europe on the island (from April 9 to May 9, 2023), aims to bring the seventh art of that continent closer through the work of prominent filmmakers, highlighted in press conference the ambassador of the European Union in Havana, Isabel Brilhante Pedrosa.

In the selection, fiction, documentary and animation pieces stand out, offering a look at the seventh art of the so-called “Old Continent”, thanks to the joint work of the Cuban Cinematheque and the delegation of the international organization, reported the organizers meeting at the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry.

Likewise, the programmer of the Cinematheque, Antonio Mazón, signified the presence of films signed by Samuel Theis, Jan Komasa, Teona Strugar, Jasmila Zbanic, Lukas Dhont, Wolfgang Fischer, Gianni Amelio, Jonas Poher Rasmussen, Benedikt Erlingsson, Vicente Alves do Ó, Eva Spreitzhofer, Nora Fingschedt, and Danilo Serbedzija.

In the same way, organizers referred to the high quality of the works, some from the film industry of various nations that will have their premiere in this capital and others awarded with the LUX prizes of the European Parliament such as Quo Vadis, Aida; Close; System breaker and Corpus Christi.

“On this occasion there is a representation of 13 nations as producers or co-producers through 14 films shot in recent years,” Mazón pointed out to the accredited press in the largest of the Antilles.

The meeting will open by the documentary Flee directed by Poher Radmussen, a Danish, French, Swedish and Norwegian co-production that tells the story of an Afghan refugee and protects the protagonist’s identity by using animation.

The Chaplin, La Rampa and 23 and 12 cinemas will host the show, which also includes the films STYX, Al Berto, Delicate, The Lord of the Ants, What did we do to deserve this?, God is a woman and her name is Petrunya, Burning days, Tereza 37 and The Mountain Woman,

The Month of Europe in Cuba brings together a wide sample of cultural expressions from the countries of that region, which articulate the classic and the contemporary in order to show the common heritage built between Europe and Cuba.
