Binuh described the incident as despicable and denounced that armed gangs ” walk freely in the country”.
A seven-strong police patrol was attacked on Sunday by gang members in Thomassin 32, southeast of Port-au-Prince, and three officers were killed, while another one was slightly wounded, Police Spokesman Gary Desrosiers confirmed hours later.
An image widely circulated on social networks showed the lifeless bodies of the police officers next to a motorcycle.
Pierre Junior Dorce, Robenson Nicolas and Medeze Fortilien were killed on Sunday, Desrosiers told the press and pointed out that the officers were not involved in an operation, but were on routine patrol as part of a reinforced police presence in the area of Laboule 12 and Thomassin, an area under the influence of the gang led by Ti Makak.
Prime Minister Ariel Henry described the incident as barbaric and lamented that “lawless thugs” continue to spread terror in a country “so damaged and mourned”.
He reiterated his determination to do everything possible to create a climate of security and stability and committed himself to a lasting solution.
