“We fully associate ourselves with this solidarity campaign for Cuba and we recognize the initiative of the PCF and its militants,” the organization’s president, Didier Lalande, stressed to Prensa Latina, highlighting the goal of the communists, announced in Marseille during its 39th congress, to work with the solidarity movement, unions and elected authorities in actions to demand an end to the blockade and Cuba’s presence on Washington’s list of states sponsors of terrorism. “We are pleased that the campaign also seeks to obtain financial and material support for Cuba,” he said.
According to Lalande, the new edition of the political-cultural Festival of Humanity (Fête de l’Humanité 2023), scheduled for September 15th-17th, is a good opportunity to express support for Cuba, which is facing more than 60 years of blockade.
During the forum the communists proposed concrete projects to help Cuba in easing the consequences of the US blockade and its extraterritorial scope, as well as increasing pressure in France and Europe so that the official position go beyond the support to the resolutions approved each year by the UN General Assembly to demand an end to the blockade.
The ambassador of Cuba, Otto Vaillant, was present on Saturday at the campaign´s presentation, an advantage that he took, to thank the French communists on behalf of the Government and the people of Cuba.
“Thanks to the French communists for their proven support for a people facing the longest blockade, an unfair, inhumane, genocidal and illegal policy of successive administrations, which has deprived us of life, development and peace,” he stated in his intervention.
