Cuban FM calls U.S. stance on TikTok as double standards

Havana, Apr 10 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Monday considered the U.S. government´s stance on TikTok as a double standard.

On Twitter, the Cuban minister stressed the United States uses its platforms to censor, misinform, collect and to sale data.

Bruno Rodríguez pointed out the United States could instead explain to Americans and the rest of the world the violations it makes against freedom of speech and its unbridled struggle for technological hegemony.

The U.S. government, he said, “pretty much knows banning an individual company is not the solution, but protecting citizens from egregious practices conducted by digital platforms,” particularly those in Washington which control 80% of Internet users’ data.

Since early-2023, more than half of the United States has been banned – partially or completely – from using TikTok on government devices, reflecting a wave of drastic measures against the social network.

Banning governors and state agencies from using TikTok extends to GOP- and Democrat-ruled states, according to CNN.

Dubbed the “No TikTok on Government Devices Act,” the bill – introduced by Rep. Josh Hawley – makes it impossible for government-related people to download or use the social network on any device issued by the United States or a government corporation.
