Antigua and Barbuda help combat deadly violence in Saint Lucia

Saint John, Apr 10 (Prensa Latina) Seven officers from the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda are helping today with Saint Lucia to fight the resurgence of deadly violence by armed gangs.

The deployment on the neighboring island complies with the mandate of the Regional Security System (RSS), in the figure of its leader and Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, to provide the necessary assistance to its member states, the government specified here.

We responded positively, and as a result, the contingent of officers will be part of the operation for a period of three weeks in the first instance, he said in the published text.

A little over 21 days ago, seven people were shot dead in the city of Vieux Fort, which led the highest authority of Saint Lucia, Philip Pierre, to adopt the decision of requesting foreign aid.

He then presented in the Lower House of Parliament the draft Law for the Suppression of the Escalation of Crime (Police Powers), in one of the actions to reduce deadly violence.

Despite the efforts made, another unfortunate event occurred the night before in Vieux Fort, when a woman was shot to death, while on Saturday three people were shot in the same area, and in March they declared a criminal escalation.

Our very social existence is threatened if we are not able to stop crime, Caribbean politicians warned in continuous calls for attention to the problem.
