EU Higher Representative for Foreign Policy and International Security Josep Borrell urged in a press release that the stakeholders, in reference to the Israeli Government and the Resistance Movement Hamas, take actions with restraint in the conflict.
We call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent a further escalation and promote peace during the religious holidays, Borrell said in his communiqué.
He added that the rise in violence in the Middle East followed the attack by Israeli forces on the aforementioned mosque and the reaction of Palestinian resistance that responded by launching rockets from neighborhoods in southern Lebanon.
The attack on one of the holiest Muslim sites in East Jerusalem occurred amid an unprecedented internal crisis in Israel, where millions of people took to the streets to protest against a judicial reform and demand the Government’s resignation.
