Quitting smoking reduces kidney cancer progression

deja-fumar
Geneva, Apr 6 (Prensa Latina) A study showed that quitting smoking after being diagnosed with kidney cancer may significantly improve survival and treatment efficacy, a peer-reviewed medical journal reported.

Researchers assessed whether the beneficial effects of quitting smoking might vary depending on the stage of the tumor at the time of diagnosis, the Journal of Clinical Oncology stated.

About 40 percent of patients in the study quit smoking, most within the first three months after diagnosis.

Scientists from the International Agency for Research on Cancer found “that the beneficial effects of quitting smoking on cancer survival was evident in all subgroups of patients, including those with early and late-stage tumors, as well as among light smokers and moderate or heavy smokers.
