“This nomination is a responsibility of great magnitude, especially in light of UNESCO’s role and mission at this delicate stage in human history, in which it is facing unprecedented challenges,” El-Enany said when thanking for his nomination.
He highlighted that tens of millions of children in the world do not receive any kind of education, while the tangible and intangible cultural heritage, as well as the natural one, face great challenges.
He also warned that the less developed countries do not receive any benefit from the great technological leap and modern innovations.
“Humanity has a great need, perhaps more than ever, to dialogue, spread a culture of tolerance, accept differences, reject violence, hatred and discrimination,” he stressed.
The official called for working to promote cultural diversity, reduce “the enormous scientific and technological gap” and achieve the goals of sustainable development.
The election of the Director General of UNESCO will take place during the last quarter of 2025.
