The statement, published on the website of the Foreign Ministry, ratifies the need for Argentina and the United Kingdom to resume negotiations to find a peaceful and definitive solution to the dispute, in accordance with UN resolutions.
The statement was issued during the official visit made by the Argentine president, Alberto Fernández, to Chile, on the occasion of the 205th anniversary of the encounter of the liberators José de San Martín and Bernardo O’Higgins, after the victory of the battle of Maipu.
On behalf of the government of Argentina, Fernández expressed his gratitude to President Gabriel Boric for Chile’s traditional support of Argentina’s claim to sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands.
