Children’s contest cheers up international ballet meeting in Cuba

Havana, Apr 6 (Prensa Latina) The 28th International Meeting of Academies for the Teaching of Ballet continues today in this capital with the Small and Children's competitions, as part of the extensive program that will last until April 12.

The new generations of dancers also showed off their talents the day before at the Martí Theater, celebrating the Gala of participating Academies and Elementary Level.

This 28th edition gathers in Havana almost 300 foreign representatives from 14 countries and all the provincial schools of the art of dancing in Cuba.

The Elementary School of Dance ‘Alejo Carpentier’ and the Vocational Workshops of the National Ballet School of Cuba were represented at yesterday’s gala, as published in social networks by the promoters of the event

According to the program, tomorrow in the Martí Theater, the Intermediate and Contemporary Category competitions will take place. At the same time, the conferences and special activities, such as theoretical events, will close.

The Gala of Participating Academies and Elementary Level, dedicated to foreign academies, will be held on Saturday, and on Sunday. On the other hand, the Gala of the prize winners will forward a special recognition to the famous Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta, a prominent worldwide dancer.

The ongoing 28th International Meeting of Academies for the Teaching of Ballet will extend its activities until April 12, when it will end with the closing Gala.

It was also announced that the final ceremony at the Martí Theater will include a tribute to the historian of the National Ballet of Cuba, Miguel Cabrera. This event will reach to its closure with the laying of a wreath in homage to the late Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso, at the Havana Theater that bears her name.
