At a meeting with the head of the Executive Directorate of the United Nations Human Settlements Program, Irfan Ali, the minister stressed the need to raise the voice to lift the unfair and inhumane coercive measures imposed on his country, which strongly affects the effectiveness of the response to the disaster caused by recent earthquakes.
He also appreciated the rapid response provided by the UN Program in the emergency phase after the earth tremors and its contribution in terms technical expertise to assess the damage to buildings.
The UN official, in turn, said that support will continue to be provided for recovery projects, particularly in the housing sector.
We will work to get the necessary technical teams to assess the technical and structural condition of the damaged buildings, and contribute to the construction and urbanization process, he said.
The Syrian Higher Relief Committee revealed that the number of buildings that are no longer habitable due to the earthquakes reached 4,444, while the properties that need to be rehabilitated total 60,000.
