According to Russian agencies, the Lebanese ambassador in Moscow, Shawki Bou Nassar, stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an order to send 25,000 tons of grain and 10,000 tons of fuel to Lebanon.
The Lebanese diplomat explained that the cereals and fuel will be delivered soon, without specifying the date.
Bou Nassar stressed that Russia is working to solve problems related to logistics services in order to deliver aid to the port of Beirut.
In early February, the Russian ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Rudakov, confirmed that Russia will provide wheat and fuel free of charge, in response to the Lebanese government’s request to address its economic, financial and social crisis.
The Russian officer pointed out that Moscow supports Lebanon in light of the difficult circumstances and will always listen to proposals on fruitful projects for the countries.
Russia donated 10,000 tons of fuel and 25,000 tons of wheat to Lebanon last October.
The devaluation of the national currency, the banking collapse and the high prices of basic necessities worsen the economic crisis that currently places four out of five Lebanese citizens in poverty.
