The Taiwan Affairs Office of the Council of State called on US authorities to refrain from coordinating transit visits for the president and scheduling meetings with any officials in Los Angeles.
The agency demanded that Washington demonstrate with concrete actions the compliance with its commitment to not support Taiwan’s independence aspirations.
It also pointed out that China would respond with “firm countermeasures” if Tsai finally meets with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on April 5.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that China would closely monitor the situation and defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
