In a press release, the UGT rejected Washington’s decision not to review Cuba’s inclusion in the list of states sponsoring terrorism, as Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated.
The document pointed out that it confirms the worsening of the U.S. Government’s strategy of political and economic harassment imposed by former President Donald Trump.
“Cuba’s inclusion in this arbitrary list is an excuse by the Joe Biden administration to hold an interventionist policy towards Cuba, in an attempt to destabilize by severe economic consequences of being included in such a list,¨ the text stated.
UGT stressed this measure “aggravates the consequences of the illegal blockade the United States has maintained against Cuba for over years.
Being included in this list means that commercial transactions including basic products (…), in addition to severe restrictions to get funds for developing public policies or seriously hindering banking operations (…) is too hard, the document stated.
The UGT stated its decision to continue supporting the Cuban workers through the Cuban Workers Federation (CTC) in the essential role due to the several challenges ahead of its economic, social, and political reality.
Concerning Cuba’s relations with the United States, UGT considered that Trump´s argument and now backed by President Biden, in addition to being false, shows the lack of commitment by the U.S. Government to peace and the crackdown on terrorism.
