In the morning press conference at the National Palace, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, dedicated this Tuesday to the subject, the director of the IMSS, Zoé Robledo, informed of the progress in the execution of the plan, and highlighted the performance of the Cuban doctors.
He said that 76.4 million Mexicans without social coverage are incorporated into the plan and that at the beginning of the project in nine states they began to attend 11 million patients, 17% of the total, a figure that has already increased to 33% and to 22 federal entities in this first quarter.
And in the second quarter, until July, with four more states incorporated into the plan, it will reach 39.88%, equivalent to 26.4 million people, and will continue to advance to 56.5 of the 76.4 and in the third quarter of the year to 68.1%.
He explained that it is still a challenge to achieve the number of specialists required to attend the whole country and for this new public health model to fulfill its purpose of medical attention every day and 24 hours free of charge including medicines, and they will continue with the calls as well as with the improvement of the infrastructure.
He recalled that the coverage of Cuban doctors is being extended, as well as the new general hiring of nationals and foreigners, which will reach a total of four thousand professionals, and also nurses, to complete the plan.
