Foreign Minister Téte António´s letter was addressed to the UN Secretary-General (UNSG) António Guterres to inform about a CNN-Portugal report broadcast on March 24 reporting Angola would have sent mercenaries to fight in the Ukraine war.

According to Angola´s foreign Ministry (MIREX), the text also brings to UNSG attention the note previously sent to the Portuguese authorities vehemently rejecting the aforementioned fake news.

This incident is a “deliberate attempt to tarnish and discredit Angola´s good image.

According to the institution, an attempt was made to confuse domestic and international public opinion in relation to the Angolan State’s principled position on the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

Angola has been victim of mercenary actions and invasions by foreign forces, so it has always condemned these acts.
