Cuban President Diaz-Canel votes in Santa Clara (+Photos)

Santa Clara, Cuba, Mar 26 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel voted on Sunday in the election of lawmakers to the National People's Power Assembly (Parliament) at the polling station 1 in the constituency 44 in his city of origin.

The head of State, a candidate himself to Parliament from this central Cuban city, where he was born 62 years ago, and 49-year-old Clara Nubia Aliaga are the two representatives to the national legislature from district 2.

This area in the provincial capital, where both parliamentary candidates exercise their right to vote, covers the communities of the Marta Abreu University of Las Villas, Capiro-Santa Catalina, Vigia-Escambray and Manajanabo.

Central Villa Clara province, according to the current population, will have 32 lawmakers in Parliament to represent 13 municipalities, 50 percent of whom will be grassroots delegates, the rest are provincial and national representatives. Of that total, 56 percent are women and all of them have a higher education level.

Diaz-Canel, who is also the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), arrived here today a few hours after his return from the Dominican Republic, where he participated in the 28th Ibero-American Summit.
