According to a statement from the Ministry, a numerous group of the Organization for the Liberation of the Levant, formerly Al-Nusra, attacked positions of the Syrian armed forces in Kafer Amma, to the east of the Al-Atareb municipality, coinciding with the Ramadan fasting.
The radicals suffered heavy losses in personnel and materiel; 11 terrorists were killed, including the leader of the attackers, and others were wounded, the Ministry reported.
The bodies of five dead extremists, foreign mercenaries among them, were removed from the battle area, and their weapons and assets were seized.
The radical groups in Idlib increased their attacks and violated the regime of de-escalation zones in that province, during this week.
The national army liberated 56 percent of Idlib in 2020, but the jihadists still control the rest of the province, where they have been holding thousands of civilians as human shields.
