The Ministry stated that the Soyuz-2.1a launch vehicle was developed and manufactured by the Progress Space and Rocket Center, which belongs to the Soyuz family of space missiles, based on the first Soviet R-7 intercontinental ballistic rocket.
The current spaceship is one of the versions of the Soyuz-2 series developed on the basis of the popular Soyuz-U family rocket (operated between 1973 and 2017).
The Soyuz-2.1a freighter is used to launch satellites, including commercial satellites, and spacecraft, such as the automated Progress-MS and the manned Soyuz-MS, which carry cargoes and crews to the International Space Station.
