This position was expressed in two letters with identical text delivered by the Syrian permanent delegation in New York to the Secretary General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council.
The Foreign Ministry referred to the missile attack against Aleppo International Airport, causing its shutdown and the cease of United Nations humanitarian services to those affected by the earthquakes.
‘This civilian airport has been a main gateway for the delivery of aid for the victims as it was receiving dozens of aircraft from UN member states and international agencies,’ the text of the letters asserted.
It added that the fact that Israel launched this aggression coinciding with the visits of UN officers to Syria proves ‘Tel Aviv’s terrorist record of assassinating UN representatives and and peace mediators.
The Ministry branded Israel’s systematic attacks on Syrian civilian infrastructure as a miserable attempt to get out of its internal crises and cover up its crimes against Palestinians and Golanese.
Finally, it reiterated its call on the UN Secretariat and the Security Council to fulfill their responsibilities and obligations under the Charter and to put an end to these attacks so as to ensure that they do not recur.
