“Cuba played against a team recognized for its technical superiority and clearly winning, but it had to face vile aggressiveness,” the president added on his Twitter account.
On Wednesday, the Cuban Foreign Ministry issued a statement in which it denounced these hostile actions, incited and permitted by Miami authorities with the purpose of destabilizing the Cuban players.
The press release mentioned the incitement by local politicians and figures who hold public office to indiscipline, aggression and siege, and their tolerance by law-enforcement authorities.
The destabilizing actions consisted of direct attacks, threats, use of offensive and vulgar language, injurious attacks on the Cuban team’s morale and other incidents aimed at undermining the athletes’ spirit and damaging the show, the communiqué pointed out.
The Government of Cuba warned the United States with anticipation, through diplomatic channels, about the public and open threats that were conceived to tarnish the Cuban team’s participation in the tournament.
