The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned that during the semifinal game between Cuba and the United States at LoanDepot Park stadium, the complicity demonstrated by local authorities allowed and created conditions for these hostility to take place, openly and with impunity.

It mentioned in a statement the incitement by local politicians and figures holding public office to indiscipline, aggression and siege and their tolerance by law enforcement.

The destabilizing actions included direct aggressions, threats, use of offensive and vulgar language, attacks injurious to the morale of the Cuban team and other incidents aimed at undermining the morale of the athletes and damaging the baseball show, the declaration added.

It stressed that ‘objects were thrown against the players and their families, including women, children and elderly people, as well as against members of the delegation and representatives of the Cuban media, and also against spectators supporting the Cuban team’.

The Foreign Ministry acknowledged ‘the conduct of the U.S. team and its coaches, who were respectful and in accordance with the sporting spirit that should prevail in these events; it also thanked the numerous fans and all those who joyfully welcomed the results of the Cuban team.

‘Above hatred, love for Cuba and love for sport will always prevail,’ the statement concluded.
