At least twelve deaths as quake hit Afghanistan, Pakistan and India

Kabul, Mar 22 (Prensa Latina) At least 12 people were reportedly killed on Tuesday after a magnitude-6.8 earthquake, on the Richter scale, was felt in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India.

In Afghanistan’s northeastern Badakhshan province, the epicenter of the quake, three persons were killed, and 44 were injured, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

In Pakistan, authorities in the Provincial Disaster Management Authority in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stated that nine people, including five men, two women, and two children, died, while another 160 were injured and 19 houses were destroyed, Geo TV reported.

The death toll and injured are expected to rise as rescue efforts continue.

The tremors were also felt in the northern states of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Kashmir, and Punjab, although authorities have not reported any possible casualties, The Hindustan Times stated.
