Venezuela rejects US human rights report

Caracas, Mar 21 (Prensa Latina) The Government of Venezuela categorically rejected the most recent report on Human Rights from the United States Department of State, an issue used by Washington for its political convenience based on distorted narratives.

A statement from the Foreign Ministry of Venezuela denounced last night that despite the fact that the United States maintains “a permanent aggression” against the rights of the Venezuelan people, they intend to judge the actions of other governments.

It stressed that once again this report has been published to attack sovereign countries, whose decisions are not made with the consent of Washington, while they, internally, fail to contain growing poverty and mitigate the brutality of institutionalized police racism.

Neither are (the United States) able to abandon arbitrary measures of imprisoning undocumented migrants, nor they stop applying illegal and unilateral coercive measures against at least 30 percent of the world population.

The Foreign Ministry stated that while the United States disqualifies other States, it has not signed or ratified important agreements such as the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; the Rome Statute; the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment; the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families; the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child; the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women; among others.

(This is) a State that 20 years ago launched one of the most brutal invasions in the history of mankind against the Iraqi people, causing hundreds of thousands of deaths and implementing methods of torture, (while) cynically trying to teach lessons on how to safeguard human rights to the rest of humanity, the ministry recalled, and stressed that the main architects of criminal wars like the one in Iraq enjoy total impunity.

The communiqué remarked that the Venezuelan Government, despite permanent attacks by the United States and its accomplices, will continue to defend the economic, political and social rights of the entire population and will continue to fulfill its multilateral commitments to guarantee a dignified life for its citizens.
