According to the president, the meeting, attended by representatives of most African states, is of great importance in the context of further development of Moscow’s cooperation with the countries of that region, Sputnik reported.

Putin recalled the important support the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) gave to the African peoples in their struggle against colonialism, racism, and apartheid.

He also referred to the assistance that the USSR provided to many African countries so as to protect their sovereignty, support the formation of the state´s structure, strengthen their defense capabilities, promote specialists, and lay the foundations of their national economies.

The president noted that nations from Africa, Asia, and Latin America are resisting neo-colonialism and forming together a world majority.
