Ecuador’s state-owned oil and gas company, Petroecuador, stated in a press release that the 6.5 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter in the Gulf of Guayaquil produced an electrical failure in the National Interconnected System (SIN) damaging six strategic fields.
Due to the quake, the Auca, Shushufindi, Indillana, Lago Agrio, Libertador, and Palo Azul fields in Sucumbíos and Orellana provinces were damaged, preventing extraction of about 17,400 oil barrels.
Petroecuador declared force majeure on its Eden Yuturi oil field and direct areas due to the El Eden Kichwa community’s disrupted operations.
