Even though Cuba was beaten by the U.S team in semifinals on Sunday in Miami, Carlos Lazo stated the match was a victory for Cuba because Cubans from all over the world united to represent their native nation and defend their flag.
“The match´s results went beyond final score. We won! Even before the game, we had already won,” Lazo stressed.
Despite pressures, hatred and media manipulation, Lazo added the game was a victory because most of Cubans attending the LoanDepot Park supported the Cuban team.
Lazo also condemned shameful acts cropped up during the game, posters portraying offensive words that were forbidden to carry in the event, and also how the Cuban pitching staff was sabotaged and deconcentrated.
Notwithstanding the intimidation campaigns in the Miami media to sabotage the event, the final result was a resounding success.
“We won because the Cuban people united as never before, those inside and outside, supporting their colors and flag. We won because the WBC was a reference of what is possible to achieve if we work together, motivated to bring glory and joy to Cuba,” he said.
“This is more than baseball. This opens a path. Haters know it, that’s why they opposed #TeamAsere, because #TeamAsere is the triumphant formula of love,” he added.
#TeamAsere is consensus, it is with all and for the good of all, #TeamAsere is Cuba,” he remarked.
“Only the short-sighted ones might think we lost. Negative: We won! We won!” he reiterated.
