According to what the officer stated to the Rossiya 24 television channel, the Ukrainian units concentrated “a fairly serious group” in the town of Chasov Yar, located about 11 km west of Artyomovsk, and then attempted to counterattack to recover territory, but were repelled.
Artyomovsk is located in the part of Donetsk controlled by Kiev and is a major transport hub for supplying Ukrainian troops in Donbass.
Intense fighting has been going on for weeks in the city. The acting head of Donetsk, Denis Pushilin, has repeatedly pointed out that there is no evidence that the Ukrainian group plans to leave the settlement.
However, Russian forces have all paved roads leading to the place zeroed-in, forcing the Ukrainian forces to use secondary roads, leading to their vehicles getting stuck frequently and still coming under artillery fire.
