Wi-fi connections extended to rail transport in Cuba

Havana, Mar 17 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Transportation (Mitrans) of Cuba informed today that it has extended communications via Wi-Fi to its railway travel networks, which expands the comfort of its clients.

A message published in the digital newspaper Cubadebate pointed out today that the company Soluciones Integrales de Telecomunicaciones S.A. (Solintel) is working on a project to install this service for passengers traveling on trains as part of the process of informatization of society.

Solintel’s president, Robelis Lambert Matos, explained that this project represents an added value for the railroad, which will allow a new level of comfort, and has its antecedent in the fleet of catamarans and in Varadero beach resort.

For this purpose, he added, levels of technology related to the equipment to be used and the development of software in the national industry were defined.

The officer added that the design of the work schedule contemplates starting with a pilot test on the third quarter of this year, and closing 2023 with service in some stretches.

He pointed out that the greatest difficulty is in the coverage of the entire central line because it is not available in its entirety, although solutions are already being worked on.

Passengers will be able to send and receive e-mail messages with attachments, will have access to the corporate intranet and will be able to browse the web, chat online with access to social networks and applications.

As part of the actions, the silent areas where the service will be affected will be detected, the necessary equipment will be defined to enable connectivity and studies will be carried out on the network infrastructure and on 4G LTE mobile telephony on the central line of the railroad.
