The vice president of the Electoral Council in Ciego de Avila, Marleny Baez, noted that in the first stage, 552 candidates for the Municipal People’s Power assemblies were nominated, 48 percent of those proposed, thus demonstrating gender equality and women’s empowerment in Cuban society.
Currently, local women are present as authorities in the municipal electoral councils, the constituencies and the schools set up for the national elections on March 26, she pointed out.
She stated that they are also involved in ensuring the successful development of the elections, which include issues such as communications and computer devices, the availability of means of transportation and food, and the processing of information.
These results respond to the growing performance of Cuban women in different sectors of society, an aspect included in the National Program for the Advancement of Women, approved by the Council of Ministers in 2020.
