Havana, Mar 16 (Prensa Latina) All 470 parliamentary candidates to the National People's Power Assembly returned to their regular meetings with voters throughout Cuba on Thursday.

In Santa Clara, President Miguel Diaz-Canel, along with the seven other candidates from that central Cuban city, began the day meeting with residents in the San Miguel community and workers from a livestock company.

These contacts have been going on for six weeks, since they were nominated for the national elections on March 26 to make up the legislative body in its 10th Legislature.

Such meetings, not at all similar to the electoral campaigns in other nations, are aimed at making the candidates known among voters after they were proposed by (municipal, provincial and national) commissions composed of representatives of the main civil society organizations.

The meetings also aim to make future parliamentarians learn first-hand about the concerns and ideas of the population about the country’s most important issues, as well as the economic and social characteristics of the territories that they will represent in Parliament.

Thus, in the livestock company, the president and the other candidates learned about novel experiences, backed by the use of science and technology in connection with the Marta Abreu Central University, which have allowed the genetic improvement of cattle to increase meat and milk production milk.

They also met with the workers of a small food production plant who expressed their confidence in the candidacy that represents them, the Presidency reported on its Twitter account.

Diaz-Canel pointed out that in the management of this company “talent, innovative knowledge, productive efficiency are appreciated, in order to diversify productions demanded by the population. Reaching these results has demanded studies, proactivity, perseverance and passion.” The tour of Santa Clara will end on Friday and also includes meetings in communities, economic institutions, educational and scientific centers, and healthcare institutions, among others.
