Chilean oppressor sentenced for MIR militants murder

tribunal
Santiago, Chile, Mar 16 (Prensa Latina) Chilean justice reportedly sentenced former Army Brigadier General Orlando Carter to ten years behind bars for the assassination of two militants of the Revolutionary Left Movement (MIR) during dictatorship.

Bautista Van Schouwen, a 31-year-old doctor and MIR founder, and Patricio Munita, a 22-year-old law student, were riddled with bullets in the back on December 14, 1973.

The justice’s performance, which unraveled a complex and sophisticated intelligence network and did not allow those crimes to remain in impunity, is remarkable for Nelson Caucoto, a petition lawyer and representative of the victims’ families.

As long as will exist, criminal actions should not be unpunished, and all dictatorship’s crimes can be cleared up for the good of Chile, Caucoto said.
