Venezuelan, Cuban journalists celebrated Cuban Press Day

Embajada-500x375
Caracas, Mar 15 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan and Cuban journalists celebrated Cuban Press Day in the residence of the State Mission of the Caribbean nation in this capital.

Havana’s Ambassador to Caracas, Dagoberto Rodriguez, alongside other diplomats, welcomed media executives, Cuban reporters accredited here, and Venezuelan communicators on Tuesday evening.

Rodriguez briefly explained the emerging of “Patria” newspaper, founded by National Hero José Martí, in New York City, on March 14, 1892, and how it became an indispensable instrument to articulate the Cubans and then call for what he called “the Necessary War”.

José Martí wrote in the first issue that this newspaper would be “to unite and love, and to live in the passion of truth (…), in the hour of danger, to watch over freedom, to be an invincible force for unity, and to prevent the enemy from defeating us again due to our disorganization.”

Gathered in Havana’s Revolution Square on March 14, 1992, Cuban journalists established Cuban Press Day on the 100th anniversary of that newspaper.
