According to Prensa Latina, Garmendia said that the Cuban and Russian governments have been working together for some time to make possible the use of this card.
The Cuban diplomat expressed his hope that all difficulties with the introduction of the Russian payment system will be solved soon.
On Monday, Cuban banking authorities reported that several branches in the Cuban capital began accepting the cards from the Mir payment system.
In 2018, Belarus and Kazakhstan became the first countries whose financial institutions began accepting Mir cards.
To date, the Russian payment system operates in some 10 countries and more than 15 nations expressed their willingness to implement it.
