A brief statement from the Ministry of Defense only reported that the maneuvers will last until Sunday, without specifying how many personnel, ships or aircrafts are participating.
The Chinese army has conducted various joint drills with the armed forces of other countries since last year, both in jurisdictional and in international waters.
In December, the Chinese and Russian navies carried out exercises with the purpose of “demonstrating the capability of both sides to jointly respond to threats to maritime security, and maintain both international and regional peace and stability.”
The active part of the drills included live-fire exercises against air, sea and submarine targets.
The Russian and the Chinese navies also tested their capabilities during the Vostok exercise, organized by Russia, and later in the Pacific.
