During his second visit to the northern region of Tarapacá, which has an extensive border with Bolivia, Boric referred to the development of military forces to contribute to controlling unauthorized crossings on the demarcation line.
Among issues in the region are the migrant smugglers who began to look for other points in places further south, given the presence of the Chilean Army, the head of State said.
Boric recalled Chile and Bolivia have had no relations since 1978, adding difficulties to look for alternatives.
Regional presidents, including Andrés Manuel López Obrador (Mexico), Alberto Fernández (Argentina) Xiomara Castro (Honduras), Gustavo Petro (Colombia), and Luis Arce (Bolivia), among others, will meet in the first days of April in order to discuss migration issues and ways to face it globally.
