Bolsonaro will return to Brazil from the U.S. on March 29th

Brasilia, Mar 15 (Prensa Latina) Former President Jair Bolsonaro announced that on March 29th he will return to Brazil after a long stay in the United States, where he arrived on December 30th, one day before leaving office, it was confirmed today.

‘I had always set a date to return, the date now set is the 29th of this month. When there is one week left, one studies the situation, how Brazil is, how the contacts are’, said Bolsonaro in an event with Brazilians in the northern nation, quoted by local media.

Asked if he will be a candidate for president again in 2026, the ex-military responded that the Superior Electoral Court can make him ineligible and an eventual arrest would be arbitrary.

Bolsonaro received pressure from allies to return to the country and lead the opposition, but fears of justice delayed his return.

In recent days, the complaint about a scandalous case of jewelry, valued at more than three million euros, given by the government of Saudi Arabia to the then first lady Michelle Bolsonaro became a concern for the environment of the far-right politician.

Such jewels were in the backpack of the military Marcos André Soeiro, advisor to the then Minister of Mines and Energy Bento Albuquerque, who was in the Middle East in official entourage of a trip that began days earlier.

The pieces were discovered by customs when Soeiro tried to enter Brazil’s national territory without declaring them, in violation of the legislation.

The necklace, earrings, ring and watch of the famous and expensive brand Chopard, after spending more than a year in the possession of customs, would be offered at auction after their seizure for tax evasion.

Such decision, however, was withdrawed because the jewels were framed as evidence of possible crimes, including embezzlement, and money laundering.

It draws the attention of tax authorities that, after the items were seized at an air terminal, in Sao Paulo, Bolsonaro’s government tried, by various means, to recover the jewelry, unsuccessfully, at least eight times.
