On his Twitter account, the president wrote: “Happy Cuban Press Day, the one that sheds light on inefficiency and brakes to development, the one that recognizes efforts and results, the one that honors Patria every day, with ethics and truth as principles.”
The delivery by the Association of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) of the José Martí National Journalism Awards to five press professionals and the Juan Gualberto Gómez Award for the Work of the Year in different categories are some of the activities to celebrate the date.
Martí founded “Patria” newspaper in New York City on March 14, 1892, “to unite and love, and to live in the passion of truth,” and to unite Cubans and Puerto Ricans around the idea of independence, as its founder stated, and has become an ethical benchmark for Cuban journalists.
