Parliamentary leaders of Egypt and India promote relations

Cairo, Mar 13 (Prensa Latina) Speaker of Egypt's House of Representatives Hanafy El-Gebaly and his Indian counterpart Om Birla reportedly advocated for boosting bilateral relations at both political and economic levels.

According to Al Ahram, both leaders highlighted “the current strategic partnership between the two countries” during a meeting held on the sidelines of the 146th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly that is taking place in Manama, Bahrain, from March 11 to 15, 2023.

We are proud of our historical relations with India and are keen to reinforce them, El-Gebaly said, as he highlighted the importance of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s visit to India in January.

El-Gebaly and Birla also discussed challenges facing the two nations, such as the threats of terrorism and extremism.

In turn, Birla highlighted the coordination between Cairo and New Delhi on political, economic, military, and security issues.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry recently visited India to participate in a G-20 meeting.
