Barbara Mangiacavalli, president of the National Federation of Nursing Professionals (FNOPI), warned about how serious this situation is, while claiming that “figures are much worse than those that have emerged publicly in the last few days”.
“Nurses are the health personnel most attacked in Italy,” said Mangiacavalli, since 75.0% of aggressions were conducted, according to a survey by eight universities nationwide.
The research found that, although only 5,000 attacks were reported in 2022, the toll is 26 times higher, since nurses largely kept silent out of fear or because they were resigned, even though 40% of cases faced assaulting.
“Many colleagues, not only nurses but all health professionals are not reporting especially verbal abuse, because it seems like normal modality they have to deal with every single day,” she said.
