On Twitter, the Cuban diplomat offered his deepest condolences to Masud-Piloto´s relatives and friends, whom he considered a strong defender of the Cuban revolution.

” Masud-Piloto was permanent promoter of a fruitful relationship between Cuban and U.S. intellectuals and academics,” Rodriguez tweeted.

He was an active collaborator for Cuban cultural institutions including the Nicolás Guillén Foundation, the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and the Casa de las Américas Cultural Center.

In 2007, he was awarded the Distinction for National Culture.
