“It honors and exalts commemorating, together with Army General Raul Castro and other combatants, the 65th anniversary of the Frank Pais Second Eastern Front, legendary for its structure, organization, and combative actions on the ground,” the president highlighted on his Twitter account.
The guerrilla territory came to cover 123,000 square kilometers and a population of half a million inhabitants, and today it accounts for the provinces of Guantanamo and part of Santiago de Cuba and Holguin.
In the rebel demarcation, Raul Castro created and organized the departments of Justice, Health Care, Public Works, Treasury, Propaganda and Inspection, Education, the Agrarian Bureau, and the Labor Bureau.
As a result, 20 hospitals and field medical posts sprang up, some 400 schools were established, and hundreds of kilometers of roads and telephone lines were built.
In its nine months and 20 days of operation, the Frank Pais Second Eastern Front took 31 barracks and posts from the Rural Guard, in addition to seizing some 2,000 weapons from the enemy.
