Gaute, invited to India to attend the national conference of the Indian Organization for Peace and Solidarity, in the city of Chandigarh, told Prensa Latina news agency that “we have had important meetings related to solidarity and peace”.
The official held a series of interviews with representatives of political organizations, related to solidarity issues, as well as peasant leaders, workers, youth and women. He also met Mariam Alexander Baby, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of India and former Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid, head of the International Division of the Indian National Congress Party.
The visitor highlighted the unshaken Indian position in favor of the resolution, that is voted almost unanimously every year in the UN General Assembly, requesting the end of the USA´s blockade against Cuba.
“With great hospitality, prioritizing solidarity, India welcomes Cuba, and there are reliable examples that this relationship is being strengthened,” he said.
“We analyzed other fields of approach and presence in various interests and favouring cooperative solidarity actions, in addition to the attention paid to young people, since there is an interest in maintaining, in this sense, an increasingly growing link with our country,” he expressed.
The objectives of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples are to foster the peoples friendship, solidarity, peace and sovereignty as the center of its work. This visit to India was also one of learning and fruitful exchange of ideas, he concluded.
