“Our will is to help Ukraine to resist and to launch the counter-offensives it wants to execute. Today´s top priority is military purpose”, said Macron, a stance that Russia strongly rejects by considering that sending weapons to Ukraine fuels conflict.
Sunak, on the other hand, expressed his hope that Ukraine would win the war and confirmed training Ukrainian marines.
Both leaders also evoked the end of the conflict, Sunak estimating that it will end at the negotiating table after Ukraine “strengthens its position” with weapons received from the West and Macron mentioning “the willingness to a lasting peace, respecting international law and the interests of the people”.
Illegal migration crossings over the English Channel was one of the main issues to debate in the meeting.
